Ever wonder how other people get themselves up out of bed every single morning? All the while, you’re hitting the snooze button, smashing your pillow over your face. Or snuggling up under your covers to get that last bit of shuteye before your alarm goes off again.

I totally get it! And I have a few tricks that have helped me along the way, that I’m sure will help you, too!

Waking up early has never come natural to me. Likewise, establishing a routine has never come natural to me either. I’ve had to really force myself to be better in that realm and to be a better steward of my time. My family depends on me in that respect…if mama can’t get her junk together, how in the world can I expect them to, also?

I like the idea that my children are just a smaller representation of myself. They mimic the things my husband and I do. If I loose my temper and yell…well, I can expect that it will be reciprocated in the same manner, but it will be my children acting it out amongst themselves. Of course, I will then have to intervene and tell them it’s not nice to yell at one another….oops! Can I really blame them if they hear me doing it also?! So, in that respect, I’m very careful about the things I say and do within my home. Having little mini me’s around truly holds me accountable for my own actions and really helps me to focus on my walk with God and the legacy I want to leave behind.

How does this tie into waking up early? Well, one way I motivate myself to get my butt out of bed is my children! I want them to see me up before them, reading my bible, having quiet time with the Holy Spirit. I want them to wake up to a clean house and see that I’ve made my bed after getting out of it (which by the way was also a struggle for me to do). The things you do in your daily life make a difference in your children’s lives, eventually.  It all comes full circle.  So, knowing that all those little things add up so much later down the road really helps me focus.

Girl’s gotta have her coffee!  Although, I’m really trying to limit my intake and eventually go coffee free.  But in this current season, this mama needs it.  I set my coffee pot to go off at 6am almost every morning.  However, I do give myself a break every once in a while and let the kids wake me up.  It’s so nice to get me time in, though.  So most mornings my coffee pot is one of my 6am wake up calls.  Yummy tip! I sprinkle cinnamon into my coffee grounds to make it that much more delectable!

Before I go to bed each night I make sure the dishes are done, living room is cleaned, things are put away and tidy.  I also set out my bible, highlighter, pen and notebook out so that it’s all ready for me after I grab my coffee.  I really don’t like hunting those things down in the morning…the less noise I have to make, the better.  Also, taking care of those things before bed make you feel so accomplished and worry free the next day.

I saved the best for last, because the following is what truly helps me hop out of bed every morning.  When my alarm goes off and the coffee pot starts brewing, I’m still such a tired mama.  I’ve been running around in circles chasing two kids all day, cooking dinner, changing diapers.  Cleaning messes, giving baths, reading books…the list goes on.  God is the reason I get out of bed.  I always repeat to myself after waking, “come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest – Matthew 11:28”.  It is those words that give me strength to get moving.  I know He is what I need and I will go to him to find rest.
